I have been adopting that mentality as well, and it makes me feel so much better to just "let go", lol.
The girls did a fantastic job with their customs and so did you. I'm sure it is NOT EASY. I am absolutely amazed by the work of Noel Cruz and Nicolle's Dreams on YT. Such talent. I think my favorite of yours is the Draculaura...she looks so cute! Thanks so much for stopping by. :...Hello, everyone! Thanks so much for stopping by. :)

Hi Meritre! I'm pretty happy with Lagoona's face. Just wish I'd started with lighter shading on her irises so I could have added a bit more detail. ;) I love the girls' cat warrior dolls, too. Hopefully we can get Oldest Gal her cat sister soon! :)

Hi Doll Dimensions! You made Little Gal's day with your comments on Jemima. She felt so special! :) I'm super pleased with Ashley, and I'm excited to try doing more faceups using colored pencils. :)

I hope you get the chance to try redoing some doll faces. I think you'd really enjoy it! :) Glad to be able to offer some inspiration. ;)

Thanks so much, AddyLovesWolves!

Hi BlackKitty! I don't mind at all. :) That's kind of been my go-to evaluation tool when I'm trying to decide whether or not to do something. Life is so short, and we only get one go at it. It's so important to make some good memories and make the little moments count. :)

I'm sorry you can't find dolls to take apart. I don't think I could make a mermaid custom out of a brand new doll. I'd feel too bad taking her apart! :{

Gwendolyn is a nice name idea...I'll keep that in mind as I decide. :)

Nice suggestion on Belle's eye highlights, too. I should have known better. ;) Honestly, I'm really tempted to try a do-over in the summer. I know I'll always look at her and be irritated. ;D At least I won't have to redo her hair this time!

My mom was always really good at encouraging my artistic endeavors, and I can still remember how special it was when she and my dad would take the time to draw with me. It's something I'm really trying to make the time for with my girls. And it's so fun to see how all of us learn from working with each other. We often inspire each other with new ideas. YouTube is awesome, too. I often wonder if I'd be more advanced in my artistic abilities if I'd had access to something like YouTube when I was younger.

I've always loved MH doll articulation, but I've always found their face paint a bit garish, and I'm also not into monster tales, so the outfits and such have never interested me. But I do love using them to make original dolls. Like you said, their big heads are really nice to work with. (Especially after working with Belle's beady little eyes!) ;)

We probably won't have the chance to do more customizing in earnest until the summer, but it's definitely a plan for then! We'll keep you updated.

Hi Treesa! Your hair tinting project sounds like fun! :)

I completely understand your hesitation with doll customizing. I've been interested in doing it for several years, but am just now getting brave enough to experiment with it. ;) It can also get pretty expensive to get all of the supplies, so it's taken me several months of stocking up to be ready to take it on.

And I definitely try to use the MH and EAH dolls we find at places like Goodwill. We try to find dolls with missing hands and such so that if we totally ruin them it's not as painful. ;)

I love giving the girls the opportunity to try new things in a safe environment. It's easy to let the fear of failure stop us from trying new things. That's something I'm still working on in my own life. ;) Hopefully things like this can encourage my girls to face challenges head-on, knowing it's okay to mess up if you learn something along the way. :)

P.S. I just checked my PO Box the other day and got your sweet card and gift. Thank you so much! You always brighten my day. Again, I'm so sorry I've gotten so behind on the Fan Mail Friday thing. :( Hope to have a post up in the coming weeks.

Hannah Prewett (beastsbelle)https://www.blogger.com/profile/15635091328769986946noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7646962372158228871.post-84585180406741229162017-04-24T05:39:49.286-07:002017-04-24T05:39:49.286-07:00Dear Hannah,
The closest I've ever come to dol...Dear Hannah,
The closest I've ever come to doll customizing is using the 'liquid watercolor paint and shaving cream' method to add some color tint to a doll's hair. I liked the end result, but it was really subtle, to the point where it didn't really show in photographs. But then again I'm also a lousy photographer. Someone with more skill behind a camera may have been able to capture the end result.
Anyway, I admire people who will dive fearlessly into a new craft like doll customizing. I don't think I'll ever have the guts to try repainting a doll's face because I know that the only way to learn a new skill is by messing up, and I'd feel horrible ruining a perfectly usable doll. I think the only reason I was able to try doll hair tinting is because the doll in question was bought secondhand and had already had most of her hair chopped off by a previous owner, so I was pretty sure I couldn't make her any worse.
I'm also glad that you're encouraging your girls to try new things. A willingness to try, even when you know you might fail, is a good thing to instill in young people because while people shouldn't live recklessly, they also shouldn't live their lives paralyzed by fear.
Good luck with any future projects.
Signed, TreesaTreesahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12526585862592345034noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7646962372158228871.post-85983127340443199012017-04-23T14:04:28.986-07:002017-04-23T14:04:28.986-07:00"I know when I'm eighty I won't look ..."I know when I'm eighty I won't look back on this week and wish I'd dusted and organized."

This is golden! I will be using it a lot, hope you don't mind! Next time hubby tells me the house is a mess this is what I'm telling him :)
Wow, the four of you had so many projects! Now I want to make a mermaid doll, but sadly I can never find any dolls to kill. The big Draculaura kinda looks like a Gwendolyn to me/ I like her poofy hair. I also like Belle's hair. She looks softer. The one thing I'd change is the highlights, they should be on the same side of the pupil. Maybe you can get some matte spray too and spray it on top of the glossy one. The irony is that acrylic paint doesn't require any sealant... but from certain angles and lighting, the shine doesn't stand out too much, especially in real life.
I enjoyed reading about the girls' projects, too. I wish my mum had participated in our crafts like you do. I was especially impressed with the stealth hood idea. I'm glad you're warming up towards MH dolls, they are fun little dolls and their big heads are easy to customize. I'will look forward to an update post!BlackKittyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14014093330317682849noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7646962372158228871.post-13162486997861902082017-04-23T10:18:30.172-07:002017-04-23T10:18:30.172-07:00All of these doll customizations are incredible!
