Okay, I just officially finished ordering My AG #55, aka Hayden! :) Yay!! I'm so excited...now. Fifteen minutes ago, I was in a complete panic.
You know, you'd think I could place an online order without much of a problem. But apparently, my life is meant to be one filled with drama (just ask my family). ;)
So, I went to order Hayden, got her in the cart, entered my payment info, and clicked the "confirm order" button. But instead of a simple cut and dry "Congrats! you ordered your doll!" message (or whatever it says at Americangirl.com), I got the "A pop-up has been blocked from Americangirl.com" message (hubby recently installed some new virus software). I clicked "options for this site", and then the message that gives you the option to retry or cancel came up. Since the message warned that my order might be duplicated if I retried, I cancelled instead. Then I was given the lovely "Internet explorer cannot display the web page" message.
I got back on Americangirl.com, checked my account page, saw that there were "no recent orders", and went through the entire process again. The same thing happened. By now, I was getting nervous and frustrated. It's hard enough pushing that "confirm order" button once. Having to push it again is a little nerve-wracking, especially when the entire order page warns you to check your order, since once you push the confirm button, "your order cannot be modified or cancelled!"
I had everything set to place the order a third time. I pushed the confirm button again so that I could push the "allow once" button on the site, but in the middle of everything, I thought, "You know, maybe I should check my email, just in case". I did just that, and to my horror, I had 2 order confirmation emails! I completely panicked. Buying one doll was crazy enough...I wasn't about to buy 2!!
The confirmation emails had an 800 number for American Girl, so I called it right away and spoke to a very helpful young man who cancelled my second order with no problem. I breathed a sigh of relief, hung up, and checked my email again...only to realize that I now had a third order confirmation. I wanted to sink into the floor. I was confused, too. In the panic of discovering I'd placed two orders, I honestly did not remember pushing the order confirmation button a third time. But it didn't matter what I remembered...the damage was done.
I called the 800 number again and ended up with a helpful and polite but slightly annoyed customer service gal. It's not like she was rude or anything, but I could tell she was busy and not really thrilled about my technological incompetence. :} She had to put me on hold to find my third order, but it was there. She cancelled it for me and all was well.
When I could breathe again, I called my hubby and told him the story. "I think I'll be placing orders over the phone from now on," I told him.
The thing that's really embarrassing is that I have no clue how long I would have continued the cycle if I wouldn't have thought to check my email. I mean, I could have ordered 12 Haydens before I noticed anything. Good grief. Just when I think I'm getting better with computers, something like this happens. :} At least I caught it in time. I know they would have allowed me to return the dolls, but I still would have had to pay return shipping.
Now watch, I'll end up with a #55 with wonky eye or something and have to send her back anyway. :}
Okay, I should go. I've got some other blog posts in the works, but I'm not sure when they'll be up. I'm speaking for my church's Ladies Retreat next week, so a lot of my focus will be on that for a while.
I'll be sure to let everyone know when Hayden arrives! :)
Yay, so excited for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Spicemuffin! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's great! I'm glad you got her when you did, so she didn't retire or something. I can see that specific doll is becoming quite popular! I think I might have chatted with the same customer service girl.. mine was frustrated and rude! I hope you have a fun time at the Lady's Retreat, I'm keeping you in my prayers :)
ReplyDeleteYay! We can't wait to see Hayden! As for Lucy...we're still saving considering I'm not the quickest person when it comes to saving for things. :} Congrats on getting Hayden! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting, gals. :) Ashlyn, I appreciate your prayers. :)
ReplyDeleteI got the same feeling about #55. I don't think they'd retire her, but I could see her going out of stock before the holidays. I really wanted to have her before Christmas. :)
I'm sorry you got a rude person on the phone. Mine wasn't really rude, just abrupt and brisk (and probably annoyed). :}
Claire, I'm sorry you don't have quite enough for Lucy yet. Hopefully you can bring her home soon! :)
Glad you figured your computer problem out! That is cool that you are getting #55. I am going to get her for Christmas and name her Brynn. I might possibly make her a Katniss Everdeen doll from the Hunger Game Series, but I am not sure yet. Anyway, make sure that you take lots of pictures once she comes in. Can't wait to see her! ~Samantha
ReplyDeleteHi Samantha! Thanks for commenting. :) I'll be sure to take lots of pics of Hayden when she gets here. :D I've been planning some photo sessions ever since I knew I was going to order her. :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun that you'll be getting your own #55 for Christmas! :)
Have a great weekend.
WOW SHE IS GOURGEOUS! I am sure you will love her!! I seriously can't wait to see your hayden! It's such a perfect name for her!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Sorry it was such a hassle to make your order, but it will be worth it in the end.
ReplyDeleteMaybe all that had to happen just so the ones with wonky eyes would go to someone else! LOL! Just teasing! I wouldn't wish that disappointment on anyone.
I hope your Hayden arrives soon and is perfect. :o)
Thanks, gals. :) American Girl Dolls Rock, I'm really excited to share pics with everyone. :) I've been in love with her ever since she was released earlier this summer. Her coloring is very close to mine, which is lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteBama, it's funny, I'm actually more nervous about ordering a doll new from AG than buying any of the used dolls I've purchased on eBay or Craigslist. This is the first time I've purchased a doll where I didn't see a picture of the actual doll I'm getting. :} I just have to trust that they'll send me a good one, I guess. At least they have a good return policy, if all else fails. :) And no, I wouldn't want to wish wonky eyes on anyone, either. ;)
Congrats on ordering! I got that doll a couple months ago and she's absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I named mine Hunter considering I was thinking about getting her about 3 months earlier so I had a plan! (Hehe)
ReplyDeleteHunter
Thanks, Hunter. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! #55 is a beauty of a doll, I'd be tempted to get one of my own if I had any sort of space in my character lineup! Enjoy her!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jen. I plan to. :) This will be my last new doll addition for a while (I'm running out of room, and much more than 7 personalities gets really overwhelming!). :}
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you! :)
yay yay yay!! I can't wait!! :)
ReplyDeleteMe too! :) The tracking info says she should be here by the 24th. :D
