Okay, I'm almost wishing I hadn't said anything about "Once Upon a Time" after last night's episode. I'm so fed up with the way they're ruining Mary Margaret and David Nolan in Storybrooke! I found last night's Fairy Tale segment pretty interesting overall, although the siren scene was just creepy. I'm glad we got to find out what happened to Abigail and that, in the Fairy Tale world at least, she and Prince Charming parted ways on good terms.
Anyway, I wanted to apologize in case any of you watched last night and were offended or surprised that I had cautiously recommended the series. And for those of you who haven't seen it, hopefully I haven't roused your curiosity just enough to make you go watch it now. If you do, just realize that I was very disappointed by the plot line from last night's show and would not recommend that episode in particular. Once again, nothing overly explicit was in it, but I was frustrated by the choices and character portrayed by the...um...characters. ;) My main interest in the show is to find out what happens to Rumpelstiltskin and Belle.
In other news, I should be able to do a bit more blogging than I thought this week since I'll be home with Middle Gal. She's feeling pretty much back to normal, so I think my main task is going to be keeping her from climbing, running, jumping, and other similar activities. ;)
Alisa, dear, good news for you! I will have your post about meeting one's future spouse up sometime this week! I hope you don't think I've forgotten you. Truth be told, I'd taken some notes in one of my little writing notebooks on what I wanted to cover, and then couldn't find the notebook! On Saturday, it was returned to me. I'd left it at my sister-in-law's house! :} So, don't worry...that post is on my "to do" list for this week. :)
I don't know that I really have much else to share. Hope everyone has a great week, and I'll talk to all of you again soon! :)
Yes, Once upon a time does get a little.....risqu`e. When those parts come on we just know that it is not the right thing to do. It just shows that that is what the world is, and how as Christians, we shouldn't get caught up in worldly actions. :) Other than those parts, I LOVE THE SHOW :D lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting, Elliebob. :) In many ways, I love the show too. The storytelling is so creative! I just wish they'd leave that other stuff out of it so I could enjoy it even more. :)
ReplyDeleteSame here! :D
ReplyDeleteI found nothing wrong with the storyline and think the charcter development is quite good. Mary Margaret is standing up for what she believes in, true love, and it would be wrong to cast dispersions on a great quality like that. I wish she'd gotten a backbone sooner and the relationship had moved along swifter so that we could finally have something good and right happen in the story instead of the endless unhappy events (Rumple/Wife, Rumple/Belle, Snow/Charming, Genie/Queen, and so on).
ReplyDeleteHi Kay, thanks for commenting. :)
ReplyDeleteI wanted to begin my response by saying that I am a Christian (as you probably guessed if you read the post before this one), and as such I am going to evaluate everything from a Christian world view. I realize that not everyone holds to that view. I want to thank you for stating your opinion so respectfully.
I do think Mary Margaret has good intentions, and I LOVE her as Snow White. :) I appreciate her compassion for others and her caring spirit, and I did feel sorry for her in the last episode. She was trying to get things out in the open and trusted David to take care of the situation. Unfortunately, HE lacked the backbone to be truly honest with his wife (or with Mary Margaret, for that matter). I'm really frustrated with the way they're portraying his character in Storybrooke.
That being said, the truest love does what is best for the other person. And when that other person is married, the best thing for them is to stay committed to their marriage partner. I know that I'm completely in the minority with this opinion, but so be it. Almost any marriage can be repaired with the Lord's guidance and the commitment of the two people involved in it.
I am not a marriage expert, and I'm not saying it would be easy. It's just so sad to me that we take our marriage vows so lightly these days. Once we're married, we shouldn't be looking for “true love” elsewhere.
Now, I realize that the scenario in the show is a bit different. It's pretty obvious that Regina has fabricated David and Kathryn's marriage to keep Snow White and Prince Charming apart, especially since we know from the Fairy Tale part of the show that they (Prince James and Princess Abigail, David and Kathryn's Fairy Tale counterparts) never actually married. So, in essence, David and Mary Margaret are a married couple from the Fairy Tale world. However, I have a problem with the way their story can be applied in our world, that true love is more important than anything, even marital commitment.
Okay, my comment was so long, I had to post two! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove is more than a warm, fluttery feeling, or even desire. Love is a decision to put the other person's needs before your own, no matter what the cost might be to you. Love is a decision to commit yourself to your spouse, even if you don't feel the warm bubblies anymore that you used to when you were dating or first married. Love is the decision to persevere and actively seek ways to pursue your spouse and nurture your relationship. Love is the decision to let go when the person you love is not free to love you.
I understand that not everyone will agree with me on this, and that's okay. I know I'm one of the few fish trying to swim upstream in a sea of fish following the current. But I've got to follow the words of my Savior, and follow my conscience (gotta make Jiminy proud!). ;)
I do definitely agree with you on how slowly the storyline is moving along. I'm sure the writers want to spread things out long enough so they have enough material for several seasons, but it is painful waiting for the happy endings! And I really hope we get some...I hope they don't drag us through 4 or 5 seasons and then end with unhappy endings. I'm almost nervous about following the show as it's airing, especially with how crazy Lost was! I didn't actually watch that series, as I mentioned in my post earlier, but I read a synopsis and was completely confused. And I really hope they don't end all this with, “Oh, this was all in one of the character's imaginations and the Fairy Tale world really doesn't exist”, or something like that!
I'm pretty much hanging on to see what happens to Belle and Rumple...with caution, because, as you mentioned, we do know that Rumplestiltskin was married once, too. I'm a bit concerned about what they'll do with that storyline as well.
I do want to see how everything resolves, too. Will Emma be able to break the curse? Will Rumplestiltskin ultimately be a “good guy” or a “bad guy”, or perhaps both? Will the Fairy Tale characters ever find out who they really are (without getting bumped off, like Graham)? So many unanswered questions...it's driving me crazy!!!
Wow, I just about did another post in the comments! Thanks for bearing with my wordiness, everyone. ;)
Ok i know this is a bit off topic but i watched tangled for the first time and it was amazing. OH it was great my favorite character other than rapunzel of course was pascal he was hilarious especially when they were playing hide and seek
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous! Thanks for commenting. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed Tangled. It's one of my favorite Disney movies, too. My daughters all love Pascal and Maximus and how funny they are. :)
Have a great day!
I am also totally disappointed in how David (Prince Charming) is being portrayed in Storybrook. Even before last night's episode, he has been a lying, spineless coward. Everytime Mary Margaret asked him to be honest with Kathryn, he was not. I honestly thought after the Valentine Card incident last week, that Mary Margaret would be done with him.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I am hopeful, because this is TV, and the writers have to draw out this storyline as long as possible, that Regina put some kind of curse on David shortly after he regained consciousness, because James/Prince Charming has always acted honorably.
The siren scene was pretty creepy in my opinion, but I did like seeing the relationship between Abigail and James come to an amicable conclusion. This whole fairy tale sequence also made me see Kathryn with new eyes as well.
On a totally different topic, I hope your DD is feeling better and has a good week of recovery!
Jenny
Amen to those comments Beasts'Belle! Maybe I don't need a future husband post after all! ;) Just kidding I can't wait for it to come up!
ReplyDeleteHi Jenny. :) I've read a few things on the site and watched a few interviews, and it sounds like what the writers are trying to do is make the characters exactly the opposite of what they are in the fairy tale world. So Snow White, who is confident and determined, is shy and unsure of herself as Mary Margaret in Storybrooke. In the same way, while Prince Charming is brave, strong, and honorable in the fairy tale (although I think his ego could go down just a touch), ;) David is afraid and spineless. I think the idea was the Queen wanted to bring out the worst in everyone, or something like that.
ReplyDeleteIt's just gotten to the point where I can't wait for the Mary Margaret/David Nolan storyline to be over (I know, I've got a while to wait, since they're the main characters). It's really ruining the show for me. I do love the fairy tale sequences, though!
Like you, I was glad to see more about Abigail and Prince James and how their situation resolved in the Fairy Tale world. It's nice to know there's more to Kathryn than meets the eye. Before this, they pretty much portrayed her as the bratty daughter of Midas. :}
Thanks, my daughter is feeling a lot better. Keeping her well rested is going to be the hard part. She feels great and doesn't understand why she can't run and jump around like her sisters! ;)
Lol...thanks, Alisa. It's great to hear from you! :)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, your post is still in the works. :)
That anonymous post was me sometimes i forget to say your reader savanah. Maximus is so funny to.
ReplyDeleteNo problem, Savanah. Thanks for letting me know it was you. :)
