American Girl officially released a photo of the newest American Girl doll to join the historicals: Caroline Abbott from 1812. You can see her photo on their Facebook page HERE.
I must confess, I was hoping for a brunette instead of a blonde, but I do love her eye color. It appears to be a true gray-green like mine! Her dress doesn't really stand out as much as I hoped it would. I've found more exciting Regency dresses through some of my eBay purchases.
I would still love to see Caroline in person, and I'm interested to see the rest of her collection and what it will be.
How about you? What do you think of the newest American Girl?
I love her! But it stinks, I promised myself that I would buy Mosi but now.....I see Caroline and I am still wondering if I should buy her. She is so beautiful! I hate myself for loving you! xD But seriously, AG needs to stop making cute dolls that I want. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up! I think 1812 is a great year for a historical character. I hope she will be as good as past American Girls!
ReplyDeleteShe is pretty, but I was hoping for something a little bit more original...Like curly red hair:). I can imagine coming up with some fantastic styles for her hair, though! Since I'm a seamstress, I don't always care if I don't like the dress, but I'm not to impressed with her meet dress. Hopefully her collection will impress though:-) I'm just excited to have an American Girl doll from 1812!
ReplyDeleteI was a little suprised by her hair color too. I was expecting it to be darker
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of the comments, everyone. :) It's always fun hearing everyone's thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI love the time period, and the doll is cute, but she just looks like a blonde Felicity to me. In person she may look different. I was really hoping for a new face sculpt. I am surprised that her hair is so blonde as well. Her name is almost the same as mine, so I guess I was thinking dark auburn-ish hair and green-brown eyes. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI think she's adorable. She probably won't be coming home with me though, as I already promised my Elizabeth she could have all of Caroline's clothes. :P
ReplyDeleteI agree, Bama. The dress doesn't help...it's very similar to Felicity's.
ReplyDeleteLucky Elizabeth, Alice! ;)
Elizabeth makes a great Regency gal, too. :)
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of dolls AG makes, like Lanie or McKenna, that I have no intention of ever buying, but still get an "ooh cute" reaction out of me. Caroline...just didn't impress me at all. I don't know if it's her hair or the dress-like-Felicity's, or just the combo of "long blonde hair, blue eyes, pink ruffly dress, HEY TARGET MARKET here you go!"
ReplyDeleteHopefully she will have a cool collection!
Lol...I have to admit I had similar thoughts, Jen. I think they wanted to be safe and go with a doll that would be a big seller for their target age. I don't necessarily have anything against pink, but I have to confess I was picturing something a little more Jane Austenish. I mean, I know her characters are older than 10, but still...
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that they wanted to play it safe - especially after Cecile and Marie-Grace, since it's fairly obvious that those two underperformed in sales.
ReplyDeleteI think I was having the same issues as you re: Austen! After months on end of seeing the seamstresses over on AGPT, modeling elegant Regency gowns on perfectly pincurled and updo-ed Elizabeth dolls, I was taken aback by Caroline's short dress and loose hair!
(Drat - now I'm hoping Caroline DOESN'T have a nice collection, because now I'm sorely tempted to get an eBay Elizabeth and a #55 and make them Jane and Lizzy...)
Oh yes...#55 and Elizabeth both make perfect Regency girls!! :D I've purchased several Regency dresses on eBay and through an online seller, and they're way niftier than Caroline's meet dress. ;) So unless she has something in her collection that really "wows" me, I think I'll be sticking with what I have.
ReplyDeleteHmm, you gave me a good idea for a photo shoot, though. Hayden and Emma in Regency attire. :)
I am very dissappointed by this doll. It is so Barbie-like: long blond hair and a nondescript pink dress. I spend more on the AG dolls for my daughter because the dolls had a unique look. Lately, though, it is all going into Mattel pink and purple. It is specially sad because that period has so much to work with as far as inspiration for dresses, hats and hair. Also, if you are going to label a doll as historical, then the outfit should be somewhat closer to what a girl would wear at that time. I'm not sure a short, thin, pink dress and loose hair is historically accurate...
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous, thanks for commenting. :) I was equally disappointed with the pink meet dress and some of the other parts of her collection that seemed historically...um...interesting. ;) However, after having a chance to see her in person, I'm totally sold on the doll herself. I'd just make her a modern doll. I have heard positive feedback from the quality of a lot of her collection, and I like her non-pink stuff. I wish they'd done something different with her hair style...I'd love to see it up in curls. And blonde isn't my favorite hair color in a doll, but at the same time, my youngest daughter (who is also a blonde) is thrilled every time another blonde doll is released. ;) Caroline's unique eye color is another thing that is convincing me that this doll is pretty cool. They are a beautiful blue green, a completely different color than any previous American Girl doll.
ReplyDeleteI do still think they could have done some things better with her collection, but overall, I'm not as disappointed as I was initially. ;)
