Sunday afternoon we had her party. Her "Jake and the Never Land Pirates" cake turned out super cute:
As I said before, Little Gal requested chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, so that's what Mom and Mimi did. To make it look like a beach scene, they made water out of blue candy clay (and added a few gummy sharks for good measure). They also made a sandy beach using graham cracker crumbs. And as an added bonus, they got some chocolate rocks to spread around the cake and add to the illusion. The palm trees were made out of Pirouette cookies with fake leaves poked in the top.
Izzy, Cubby, and Jake were in a set of three at Walmart.
Cubby's raft was made out of candy clay and a broken Pirouette cookie.
Jake keeps an eye out for Captain Hook. ;)
A closer look at the chocolate rocks. These things look so real, you almost expect to break your teeth on them!
Shark-infested waters...
...and sandy beaches.
Little Gal got some nice things:
A Lalaloopsy set...
...her "Jake and the Never Land Pirates" cake toppers...
...a family of Calico Critters...
...some bubbles...
...and a fun pop bead craft book.
She also got spending money from several family members last month to use on our trip and a $10 Walmart gift card from one of my friends. Today we went on a Walmart shopping spree and found some fun things. We topped it off with a lunch date at McDonald's. ;)
I hope all of you are having a good week so far. Sorry for the short and sweet post, but my creative energy is nil right now. ;) I'll be back with more soon. Don't forget that Thursday is the last day to sign up for the BFC Ink outfit Giveaway!

Cute cake. Please tell little gal I said happy b day
Thanks, everyone. :) Sunny, the critters are called "Calico Critters". My mom got them at a secondhand shop, but you can find them at ToysRUs and Barnes and Noble. :)
Tamsykens here.Nice to see a Mom actually making their kid's birthday cake! I think in all the time my kids have been going to birthday parties, or having parties at school, I have been the only one who makes the cakes from scratch. They're all bought.I was starting to think maybe I was cheating them,(The kids at school usually turned their noses up at homemade cake.) but I asked them and they preferred mine, which was nice.My son had a pirate birthday once and I made a treasure chest cake, which I thought was pretty cool. There were candy necklaces and ring pops and chocolate coins spilling out and I used those sweet tart rings for the chest handles.I made the same cake for the cast party when he was in The Pirates of Penzance in school and it came home from the party untouched except somebody had taken a necklace out. By the way, did you get my email about taking ink stains out of fabric?
Hi Tamsykens! Thanks for stopping by. :) Little Gal's cake was homemade, but not by me. I could technically do it, but my mom and my aunt are both AMAZING at making birthday cakes and love to do it, so I let them do the cakes. ;)
I agree that homemade cakes are special, and it's a shame that other kiddos turn up their noses at them. Thankfully, the kids we've had over for my girls' parties in the past have all been really appreciative of the girls' cakes. :)
Yes, I did get your email. I'm so very sorry I haven't gotten back to you. I have about 10 emails I need to respond to right now, starting from over a month back. :{ I just got behind and have had a hard time getting back to it. Thanks for your suggestions. :)
Nice cake! Congrats to your mom (and Mimi)! And of course, happy belated b-day, Little Gal. :)
Thanks, Anonymous! :)
