A Few Updates

Hello, everyone! May I just say, you guys are awesome for waiting so long for me to get my act together. This fall brought many new adjustments with the girls' new school, so for a while, it was just easier to play the avoidance card instead of thinking how behind I was on blogging. ;)

I'm about halfway done with my annual Rapunzel and Belle Disney Store doll reviews, so those should be up within the week. Since the reviews are taking longer than I planned (especially since my Belle dolls from prior years are still packed away and I have to find them), I thought I'd tide you over with a few updates.

For those of you who don't follow me on Instagram, I just did a full month's worth of drawings in October, known as "Inktober" for artists. ;) It was a crazy challenge to do one traditional ink drawing per day, but I made it. I think about two or three of them were a day late. ;)

Here are a couple of my favorites:

Fan art from Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George.

Fan art from Tangled

Unicorn!! :D

"Phan" art from The Phantom of the Opera.

Fan art from Beauty and the Beast.

It was great to have an excuse to draw, and I really saw an improvement in my art as the month progressed. :)

Since I now have an indoor cat, I have to rethink the way I display my collections. He loves climbing and has taken quite a liking to my doll rooms, for example. ;)

To keep my things from getting broken and to avoid situations where I'm annoyed at the cat for something instinctual to his nature, I decided to invest in a couple of display cases from IKEA. They didn't house quite as many of my things as I'd hoped, but it's a start. Here are my displays so far:

With lights on...

...and without.

I couldn't fit my boxed doll sets in the displays and fit much of anything else with them, so I decided to put them on top with my Funko Pops from Frozen and Tangled.

The top left shelf holds some of my favorites from my Tangled collection.

The next shelf down has some of my Frozen favorites.

Next comes my live-action Cinderella collection.

And on the bottom, my Fluttershy, Minty, and watermelon mini collections. This is the display space I'm probably the least happy about. I might try rearranging it, or I might try displaying something else there instead.

The top right space has my more stylized dolls, like my Pullips, J-Dolls, and Licca.

The next shelf down has my custom dolls. This space will eventually have other dolls, too. :)

Next I have a display of some of my very favorite G1 My Little Ponies.

And the bottom shelf has some of my Hearts for Hearts Girls and mini dolls.

I may change the displays around a bit after a while, especially as I continue to unpack, rearrange, and go through my collections, but this is a nice start. :)

I also hung up three of my little house-shaped shelves again so I could display some of my mini Shoppies and Twozies.

My toy budget has been much more limited now, but I've still managed to find a few things here and there. ;)

Ever since I saw the messy-haired Anna Little Kingdom doll from Frozen in footage from last February's Toy Fair, I've been keeping an eye out for her. She never showed up in regular stores, but I just found her at Ross last week for $5!

She comes with an unassembled bed, a Sven pillow, three golden embellishments for her hair and dress, and a sleep mask.

Here she is, all ready for bed.

And catching some Zs with her mask on. ;)

At Target, I found a doll-sized Nutella jar. ;)

And also some Christmas Shopkins. My favorite is the ugly sweater one. :)

It's been thrilling to find so much unicorn-themed stuff around in stores, too. As I said on Instagram, though, I liked collecting unicorn stuff before it was cool. ;)

I also recorded a couple of YouTube vlogs during my absence that shares a bit of what's been going on with me. If you'd like to see the most recent one, you can watch it HERE. (Please pardon my crazy hair...I'd just taken a shower.) ;)

Not much more to report other than that. I've been busy parenting, helping the girls adjust to their new school (which they love), writing, and trying to figure out a better social media/blogging schedule.

I also got a couple of writing rejections. One for a short story I submitted to a magazine, and one from an editor I met with at Realm Makers for my book. The good news is, in both cases, they liked my writing. It just wasn't a good fit for them. I'm trying to keep pressing on and remember that each rejection is a chance for growth and change. :)

I'm slowly starting to save up for Mount Hermon next year. While I'd be tempted to attend Realm Makers a second time, it's farther away next year, and I really missed Mount Hermon. We'll see how that goes, though. There are still a lot of other things that may need to take a financial priority.

I guess that's all for now. Just wanted you to know that I'm still alive and kicking. ;) Hope to have that review post up soon!

  1. Love your new displays! Spoken from experience: if you want your cat to ignore your dolls, get a second one :D They will be too busy with each other.
And my, a drawing every day! That sounds exhausting, you should be super proud that you did it!

  2. Great to see you back, Hannah! It's been nice to follow along on Instagram as I always enjoy seeing what you guys are up to. I love that little messy haired Anna! I didn't even know she existed, but what a great idea to make that version of her. :)
I also love how you displayed your mini Shoppies in those little dollhouse shelves...so cute!
It's great to see your dolls out again and best of luck as we head into the craziness of the holiday season!
I have to seriously resist buying stuff. This is a very hard time of year for me due to all the amazing sales! I have to BE STRONG. :)

  3. Dear Hannah,
Welcome back to the blogosphere. It's good to hear from you again. Sounds like things are pretty busy over there, so I'll keep this short. Take care and God bless.
    Signed, Treesa
P.S. I have a Thanksgiving card on its way to you, so keep an eye out for it.

  4. Thanks so much, you guys! It's nice to be back and hear from all of you again. :)

BlackKitty, we actually came super close to having a second cat, but it didn't work out. It was an adorable little calico from the same feral cats next door, but it ended up finding a home with someone else. We do plan on adding another cat to the family at some point, but we might wait until we're in a slightly bigger house. Unless we find a super cute calico somewhere. ;)

Glad you like the displays. I'm super happy with how they look, too. :)

It was pretty crazy doing a drawing a day, especially by the end of the month. I'm so glad I did it, though! It was great to challenge myself that way. :)

Hi Farrah! It's been fun hearing from you over on Instagram. I really love little messy-haired Anna, too. So glad I found her!

As soon as I saw those little shelves, I knew they'd be perfect for the little Shoppies. I love getting to display them that way. :)

Oh, man, I hear you. Now that so many new shiny things are coming out for Christmas, it's hard to resist!! ;) I have to BE STRONG too! ;)

Hi Treesa! So nice to hear from you too, my friend. :) I'll look forward to getting my card. :)

  5. Welcome back! :)
Anne Shirleys earlier tries were refused, too, and although she's only a figure in a book, I read that the author, Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote her own experiences in writing in those books about Anne. Just keep trying!
PS: Careful with calico cats, they're all girls, so she needs to go on a trip to the vet first, but I guess you already know that. :)

  6. You ARE INDEED MISSED!!! Your blog is definitely among the top 5 highest quality doll blogs I've seen (and, I've scoured the Internet for them!). I know it must take a lot of time to create posts as detailed as you do, but yours is one of a few I rely on to actually make decisions about doll purchases. Your comparison posts and charts (especially the face mold one!!) strongly influenced my decision to purchase my first 18" American Girl doll. I had been collecting the AG books, movies, paper dolls, and mini dolls for years. But, the information I studied on your blog gave me the confidence to happily purchase my first of five so far 18" AGs (about to purchase Nanea to be my 6th).

On top of that, many doll blogs have gone defunct in about the last year or so, and another one is about to at the end of the month. There is becoming a dearth of regular good play doll collecting information.

Thank you for all you've done, but I do hope you'll do more when you can. Not many blogs are as comprehensive and intelligent as your posts, and even fewer with the wholesome perspective you offer which is refreshing and cheering.

  7. Hey there! I recently discovered your blog and it's great! I really appreciate your in-depth reviews about the Disney dolls. I don't currently own a Belle or Rapunzel doll, and it's so, so helpful to see all of the dolls lined up for comparison! Your reviews of Beast/Prince and Eugene are also helpful in figuring out which of those dolls I'd like to get. Especially when I'm browsing through eBay, because sellers rarely indicate the year the doll was released. Thanks to you, I think I will be able to get the perfect combination of favorite doll + favorite dress! I like the newer face mold for the Belle dolls (2015-present) but am unsure of which face I like best, so I'll be looking out for your review. I'm not saying this to make you feel pressured about blogging! Just wanted to let you know that you have another reader and I'll be happy to see the reviews whenever they come online.

Btw, have you had a chance to see the new Tangled: The Series dolls? I recently learned that JC Penney has an exclusive Rapunzel + Eugene set that is currently on clearance and is pretty affordable, if you had an interest in it. I've also seen the Disney Store's Rapunzel-only sets for as low as $15 (apparently she has better articulation than the Penney's version).
