Hayden and Jenna's New Room

My dad and I have been in the planning stages of making some stacking doll rooms for my bedroom.  I'd like to try and condense my 18" doll displays to one side of the room so it doesn't feel like I've completely taken over the bedroom! ;)  It might be nice if Hubby felt at home there too. :}

Dad got the first room done a few weeks ago, and on Thursday I got it all painted (with his help...thanks, Dad!).  Here are a few shots of the paint job in progress:

I used some lavender Behr paint that was leftover from the girl's playroom for the inside of the room.  We painted the outside white.  Dad also stained one side on the inside of the room so that I could use it as a wood floor.

Today, Dad brought the room over.  Eventually I'll have 3 rooms stacked on top of each other, but for now it's perched on top of the entertainment center that serves as Maggie and Rachel's room:

I already knew that this room would belong to Hayden and Jenna, but it still took me a couple of hours to figure out the best way to display everything.

I'd like to apologize for the poor lighting in some of these pictures.  I'm still trying to experiment and figure out the best way to get light into the rooms for my photography. :{

Here's the whole thing! :)

Hayden looks quite comfy on her bed. :)  The beds are AG boxes covered with blankets and doll bedding.

Another picture of Hayden.  I know it's almost exactly the same as the first one, but it turned out so cute I had to include it. :)

Jenna is very excited to have a big room to share with her new friend. :P

I thought you might enjoy taking a closer look at their shelves.  You might remember that I found this adorable white shelf at Salvation Army.  The top has a floral arrangement (fake flowers and a metal pail from Dollar Tree), a picture of Hayden with her sisters, Sugar Grape from the My Little Pony Blind Bags, Hayden's Orange Blossom figurine, and two of Jenna's carousel horse figurines (the ones my mom found at a local antique store).

The next shelf has Jenna's other two carousel horses, Hayden's horse Squinkie, and both girls' My Little Pony collection.  Jenna has her two favorites, Rainbow Dash and Applejack, and Hayden has her 3 favorites, Fluttershy, Princess Celestia, and Twilight Sparkle.

The middle shelf has Hayden's Strawberry Shortcake and Disney Princess stuff...

...and the bottom shelf has her Breyer horse collection.  As you can tell, I have a lot more stuff for Hayden than for Jenna.  I've only had Jenna for a few months, and I'm still figuring out her character, so that's pretty much why.  That, and Hayden has waayy too many things she's into...just like me! ;)

Hayden's books.  Can you see her vintage Custard the Cat in the background? :)

I also included Hayden's princess floor puzzle.

Jenna is into shopping and clothes, as you can see from the bags at the foot of her bed. :)

She has My Melody, Chococat, and a Rebecca doll at the head of her bed.  And yes, this is the doll that was formerly Hailey's.  Hailey decided that she didn't really want her Rebecca anymore, and she thought Jenna might enjoy her since they look so alike. ;)

Hayden's bed has her stuffed horse Chester and her Felicity doll.

She also has some friends at the foot of her bed:  her cloth Ariel doll, her plastic Aladdin, and her vintage Strawberry Shortcake doll.

That's it for now.  I'll probably change things around a bit once I have a better idea of how I want it to look.  I'm also planning on hanging up posters and maybe a shelf or two at some point in the future.

I'm not sure when the other two rooms will be here.  My dad's super busy now, and I have to wait until both of the other rooms are done before I move them here (I can't fit anything else until I can get rid of the entertainment center, but I can't get rid of the entertainment center until I have the rooms to replace it). :}   I'll be sure to share pics when the whole thing's complete, though! :)

Great room and lovely set up for the girls. What are the dimensions you have used for the room?

Thank you.

Wow! What I neat room! We are actually wanting to do something similar, just on a larger scale(obviously, because there are currently 15 of us here!) with the whole shelf/square box room ideas. Right now, we have an old bookshelf but the sizes of the "holding cells", as we call them, vary greatly and can get annoying when wanting to shift various things around :P Once we're done, we're planning to send some photos into Doll Diaries and hopefully get featured!
ANYWAY! I(Emmie) have said this before and I'll say it again, you guys have a better time at antique stores finding little stuff than we ever do/will! I especially love your carousel horse figurines, your mini books(I'm wanting to get more "mini" books for myself, and eventually get a bookshelf like you guys' custom made!), all of Jenna's and Hayden's toys, and of course Jenna's shopping bag collection!
Can't wait to see the other rooms!

Thanks for all of the comments, everyone! :) I'm glad you like how the room turned out. I can't wait to get the others done and share them with you! :)

Serenata, the room is 2 feet tall, 3 feet 1 inch wide, and 2 feet deep. I chose the basic dimensions according to the space I had and the amount of room I wanted above their heads, and then my dad went from there. As you can see from the pictures, he added an edge around the front to help keep things from falling out and to give the room more support. I measured the actual height of the box, not the height of the opening. The inside of the room is lower than the edge, though, so it should be right at 2 feet. Hope this helps! :)

Hi Emmie Johonna! I hope your room plans go well...can't wait to hear how they all turn out! :)

As far as all of my doll goodies, just keep your eyes open. You never know what you might find at that next thrift store. ;) I also do a lot of shopping in the toy section at Walmart and on eBay. :)

Hi Beast'sbelle! I read your last post about Picnik's last day. Here's a great alternative: http://www.picmonkey.com/ It's exactly the same as picnik, just different decorations:) Hope you enjoy it!

Totally jealous of your all's new room.

Hi MulanFan_95. :) I actually tried picmonkey.com and a couple other sites after I lost Picnik. Picmonkey was the one I liked the best. The only two things I didn't like were that they didn't have an option to make collages and that at this point they don't seem to have a way to save directly to your Picasaweb album. Other than that, I liked it. :)

Sorry you're jealous, Bean. :( Hope you can still enjoy the post! ;) Maybe for the next rooms I could do a "how to" post for everyone, so you could see how my dad actually made the rooms. What do you think?

WOW! Hayden and Jenna's room is so spectacularly set up - so nice of your dad to build that for you! I love all the little accessories and knickknacks you've collected to suit each of your girls' personalities - I would do that, but I'm running a bit low on cash since I just bought several things for my "girls". :)

I find myself checking your blog every day, every hour. The only solution is you must write quickly and then again, and more quickly. ;)
Also, I was thinking of getting 55, and naming her Hayden. Then i came across your blog. Of course, it may be something different, but if its not, will you let me use the name?

Hannah Prewett (beastsbelle) said...

Thanks, Claire! :) Yeah, my dad's pretty amazing. ;) I really appreciate him taking the time to make this for me.

I've really enjoyed collecting all of the little knickknacks and things for the girls, especially since I've made them interested in the same things that I'm interested in. ;) Of course, it's easy to get a bit carried away...I have to watch my budget! :}

Aww, thanks, Heather. I appreciate all of my followers and readers so much. You all have made this so enjoyable for me! :D I'll do what I can, but life and family have to come before blogging. ;) Like I mentioned earlier, I have a lot of posts in various stages of construction, so once I have the time to sit down and finish them, you'll have lots of fun things to read. :)

And of course you can use Hayden for your 55, if you decide to. My Hayden would be honored. ;)

Hi. This is my first time commenting on your blog, even though I've been reading it for a while. I really like Hayden and Jenna's room... especially the vintage Strawberry Shortcake doll in the last picture (I think I have that exact S.S.C. doll...) ;)

Hannah Prewett (beastsbelle) said...

Thanks, Anna-Marie. Nice to hear from you! :) I'm glad you enjoyed the room. I have a confession to make, though. It ended up being just Hayden's room. :} I have so much stuff for her that it looked even better with just her things in it! Poor Jenna...I'll make it up to her. ;)

I love the vintage SSC doll, too. I was a huge fan of SSC when I was little. When I was developing Hayden's character, I gave her a lot of my same interests at that age (she's supposed to be 12). That's why she's into horses (I had an extensive Breyer horse collection!), Disney Princesses (especially Jasmine, who was my favorite at the time...Aladdin had just come out), Strawberry Shortcake, Lady Lovely Locks, and other fun 80s/90s toys (I think I was actually a bit younger when I was into those, but hey, it works!). ;) It's been so much fun finding things for her that remind me of my childhood interests.

Yikes, that was a humongous comment! I haven't been on here all weekend and I'm feeling wordy! ;)

Hey Hannah,

I am thinking about trying to build doll rooms for my girls (and now 2 boys), and was curious if you knew what kind of wood your dad used on yours? I know that Home Depot (or my brother) can cut the wood to the sizes needed for me to build it, but I didn't know what kind of wood to get to do the building.
