Sketching 101 with Beast'sbelle ;)

Okay, not really.  I am not anything close to a professional, and have not had any training.

However, I do enjoy drawing and sketching.  And since my subject matter happened to relate to this blog, I thought all of you (or hopefully, at least some of you!) would be interested in seeing my latest project.  :)

So as you (hopefully) can tell, this is a rough sketch of Belle and the Prince shortly after his transformation.  In this picture, I haven't erased any of the fine lines or anything.  Sorry, I know you probably can't see any of the fine lines anyway. :}

After I finished the sketch, I compared it closely to the original and realized that I'd made the back of Belle's head too small. So...

...I went back and fixed it. :)

Here is the final product, with the fine lines erased and some shading applied.  It really looks a lot better when the original isn't right next to it. :)

Here's a close-up of the Prince...

...and a close-up of Belle.

For those of you who are curious:
1. Yes, I did this all by myself.
2. No, I did not trace it.
3. Yes, I did look at the original picture and copy it (I do much better doing it that way than trying to draw from memory).
4. No, I do not want to be a Disney animator.  I lack the patience and would have trouble keeping duplicate drawings consistent with one another.
5. Yes, I know the proportions are really different from the original picture.  Like I said, I'm not a professional.  I just enjoy drawing. :)

I was kind of thinking of using this as a blog giveaway prize sometime down the road.  Any thoughts on that?  Would you rather have a full-color picture?  Would you rather not have a picture at all?  Are you just saying you want one so you don't hurt my feelings? :)  Please be honest.  It will not offend me at all.  I was trying to come up with something to use for a giveaway for my 150th post (and I still have some time...don't worry).

Also, one more thing that I hate even having to say, but I would like to bring up since these things do happen.  Please do not use my artwork or my other pictures without asking me first (with the exception of my blog buttons, of course). :)  I work hard to take my pictures and draw my drawings.  If you're interested in posting something of mine on your blog or anywhere else, please have the courtesy to ask first. :)  I'm usually a pretty agreeable person and would most likely even be willing to give my permission. ;)

Anywhoo, I'd love to get your feedback on my attempt at artwork. :)  Talk to you again soon!

Thanks, Alexandra! :) I usually just look at my work and see the discrepancies, so it's nice to get an outsider's opinion. ;)

And hooray for Tangled!! I'm glad you liked it. :D

This is lovely! Good work! You'd probably have a ton of fun with Illustrator and a Wacom tablet.

Wow, Beast's Belle, you are very good! I wish I could draw like that... I once did a watercolor of the dance scene from "Beauty and the Beast" for my cousin. It was a lot of fun!
I would totally like it if you did a giveaway for one of your drawings. And yes, I really do like it. :)

Neat! Your composition is a lot better than the original.

First, there was too much of the prince's back showing. We all know he was a beast, but by cropping his huge hulking back your prince seems more human. I still think the Disney prince makes Belle look like a little girl. He's kinda scary.

Second, you completed the top of his hair! Woo hoo! I'm always annoyed when magazines 'crop the top'. They don't like feet either.

Well done!

Part two: You shortened the bridge of Belle's nose and gave her a forehead . . . beautiful!

You make the Disney art look way strange . . .

Thanks, AlexAndrea! Wow, you make me sound so intelligent, as if I planned all that out. It's too bad I didn't do that on purpose. :} I guess my art is like my grammar: I just go with what looks right and hope it works! ;)
