Happy Good Friday!

On this day, we remember the incredible sacrifice made so many years ago on our behalf.  Over 2,000 years ago, an innocent Man was killed for something He didn't do.  This happens frequently in our fallen world.  But this death was different.  The death of this Man paid an awful price, a price that none of us could pay no matter how hard we tried.  And because of His sacrifice, we can now have eternal life.

How His friends and followers must have wept on this day.  I cannot even imagine how terrible it would have been to be there, to see the agony and suffering on the face that had shown such love and mercy to the unlovable.

Of course, we know that the story didn't end there.  Resurrection Sunday was coming! :)  I am so thankful that our Lord didn't stay dead.  May we never forget.  May we never take for granted the amazing love of God.

One of my favorite modern songs is called "How Deep the Father's Love for Us", written by Stuart Townend.  It's one of the songs on my playlist, but I'd love to share the lyrics with you now:

How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure,
That He should give His only Son,
And make a wretch His treasure.

How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away,
As wounds which mar the Chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory.

Behold the Man upon His cross,
My sin upon His shoulders,
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers.

It was my sin that held Him there,
Until it was accomplished,
His dying breath has brought me life,
I know that "it is finished".

I will not boast in anything,
No gifts, no power, no wisdom,
But I will boast in Jesus Christ,
His death and resurrection.

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer.
But this I know with all my heart,
His wounds have paid my ransom.

If you'd like to know more about the true meaning of Easter, you can read the book of John in the Bible, chapters 19-21.  And if you want to talk to someone, please email me.  I'd love to share more about this wonderful holiday and my wonderful Lord. :)
