Tuesday Morning Pullip Goodies

Okay, I didn't get nearly as much listed as I wanted to on eBay, but I think that's going to have to be good enough for this time around. :}  The good news is that there are a lot of Lalaloopsy and My Little Pony things for sale, so if you've been enjoying this month, you can come browse my secondhand shop. ;)  You can see all of my items for sale HERE

I've had at least one reader ask about the Pullip Dorothy doll I have listed.  I'd actually hoped to post about her earlier this week, but it just didn't work out.  I thought it would be fun to get the post up tonight before I get back into Lala-Pony mode for the last week. ;)

I stopped by my local Tuesday Morning last week and didn't see all that much.  Just as I was about to leave, however, I saw that they had some Pullip dolls in stock for $39.99 each!! :D  There were four of them.  Well, to be strictly accurate, there was one Pullip and there were three Taeyang dolls.  All were from "The Wizard of Oz".  There was a Pullip Dorothy and Taeyangs as the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion.

Ever since I got my Pullip (who finally has a name, by the way...but more on that later on), I've been wanting to find another doll to go with her.  Specifically, a Taeyang doll.  I almost ended up with a Captain Hook Taeyang shortly after I got her, but he had a defective ankle and I took him back.  Which was probably a good thing.  I really didn't need to buy two expensive dolls that close together. :}

So when I saw this latest batch of dolls, I looked at the Taeyang dolls first.  The problem was, I didn't want a silver guy, or a guy with stitched lips and a black triangle nose, or a guy with a mane and whiskers. :}  I actually liked the Cowardly Lion and thought of possibly using him as a Beast doll.  (You can see a picture of him HERE.)  The more I thought about it, though, the more I realized that I would always wish I could somehow remove his dark nose and whiskers.  I even went home and researched customizing Pullips/Taeyangs online.  When I found out I'd most likely have to use sandpaper to remove the face paint, I decided that was not the type of customization I wanted to try. :}

I wasn't sure about Dorothy.  I mean, she was adorable, but she didn't really "wow" me like my Pullip had.  Still, she was $39.99.  Such a good deal...and she was the only one!  I decided to buy her and keep her in the package for a while.  Then I could sleep on my decision and decide if I wanted to keep her.

Yeah, that worked well. :}

And that brings us to the following review.

Warning:  this is another one of those posts where I will have undressed dolls with developed figures.  If this is offensive to you, please skip this post.

Here is Dorothy in her box.

Side view...I love all the pretty details on the Pullip boxes. :)

Back of the box.

I always get a kick out of reading the back of the boxes.  Some things are lost in translation, especially the last point above the box. :}

The other side.

The amazing price!!

And here is Dorothy up close.  She is cute.  I love her pretty blue eyes.

Another look at her face.

The inside of the box included instructions for the stand...

...and an insert about other dolls.

Here she is, closer to her freedom. ;)  I love the way the Pullip dolls' boxes are always decorated with their accessories.  It's always fun to peek into the packages and see what's on the sides of the box.

I love her cute little blue socks.

Fuzzy little Toto

Dorothy's basket

Collector card

Ruby slippers!

Her stand base...

...and the rest of the stand.

Dorothy's face again.

Okay, so I guess this is as good a time as any to announce my older Pullip's name.  I decided I wanted a name that started with a "P" since she was originally a Peter Pan doll.  My final choice was....(drum roll please)....Pippa. :)  It's short and cute and it fits her (at least I think it does). ;)

So here, Pippa's checking out her possible new friend.  She's pretty skeptical this time around.  She was very disappointed when Captain Hook didn't stay. :}

The back of the packaging.

And...shocker...I opened her. :}  Front view here...

...and a view from the back.

Dorothy's braids were protected by plastic.  When I took the plastic off, the ends of her braids were all scrunched together.

I played with them a bit to give them a little more body.

Dorothy's stand is yellow (most likely because of the yellow brick road from the movie).  It comes in two pieces...

...but very easily snaps together.

Toto is cute and fuzzy.  He's fully plush and is not posable.

A view from the side.

Dorothy's basket is made of plastic.  Toto can fit inside.

Here is Dorothy's collector card.  I find the differences between stock image Toto and actual Toto interesting.  The Toto depicted on the card has a much more defined nose and smaller eyes.

I had fun taking a few pictures of Dorothy with her furry friend:

Dorothy is really fun to pose by herself, too:

Dorothy's outfit consists of several layers, including a white blouse, bloomers, a white underskirt, a blue gingham jumper, socks, and shoes.

Her jumper has snap closure in the back.

I was amazed at how great the underskirt looked with the blouse.  I almost prefer this look to the jumper.

It looks really amazing on Pippa, too:
This outfit would be so cool for an outdoor photo shoot, but I'd be too afraid of staining it. :}

One of the things that made me the most tempted to open Dorothy was that after doing some research, I realized that she had a different body type than Pippa's.  Dorothy has Body #3, while Pippa has Body #4, the newest and current Pullip body.  I was very curious to see the differences between the two.

 Here they are from the front.  Aside from the very obvious skin tone difference (which is not necessarily the case with every #3 and #4 doll), you'll see that Dorothy has an extra point of articulation at the waist, wider hips, and different knee joints.  Her wrists are different, too, but we'll take a closer look at that in a minute.

Here they are from the back.  The main difference from the back is that Dorothy has screws showing, while Pippa does not.  Pippa does have the same holes in the back of her head, but her hair is covering them.

Here's a closer look at Dorothy's body...

...and Pippa's.  Notice the difference in the elbow joints as well.

A look at Dorothy's legs...

...and Pippa's.  Their feet appear to be identical.

Dorothy's neck has a much bigger indentation than Pippa's:

A closer look at the elbow joints on Dorothy...

...and Pippa.  Both have a great range of motion.

Dorothy is much more flexible in the torso than Pippa.  She can even do the hunched over look. ;)

She can also turn around completely at the waist.

Ouch!!

While she's more flexible at the waist, Dorothy is not as flexible as Pippa in the wrists.  Her wrists can move back and forth...

...but Pippa's can also spin around in the socket.

Here's a closer look at the back of Dorothy's knees...

...and Pippa's.

In spite of the differences, both are very flexible.  Pippa's right knee tends to come out of its socket when I do this pose, though.

Another sitting pose.

Dorothy has the same features at the back of her head that Pippa does:  two buttons and a toggle switch that control her eye mechanisms.

Her eyes can look forward and to either side.  (Sorry I didn't get a picture of all three positions.  If you go back through the post, you'll see the eyes in each of the positions in the different pictures.)

Her eyes also close.  However, it was at this point in the photo shoot that I discovered one of the other differences between Body #3 and Body #4.  The buttons that close Dorothy's eyes don't have the same catches on them that Pippa's do, so her eyes can't stay closed on her own.  I was pretty disappointed when I found this out.

For more information on Pullip body types and the pros and cons of each, you can check out this extremely helpful page on Pullips and Junk.  There are a lot of naked Pullip pictures on this page, though, so please don't click the link if it makes you uncomfortable.

Photo Shoot Time! :)

After I'd done the pictures for this review and had Dorothy on display, I ended up with a serious case of buyer's remorse.  You know how sometimes you buy something just because it's an excellent deal and you feel like it would be foolish to pass it up, or you think you might regret your decision to pass it up later?  That was me with Dorothy.  She was a total impulse buy.  Sometimes impulsive buys work out for me, but this time I really regretted it.

The difference in articulation isn't such a big deal.  I do prefer Pippa's more flexible wrists, but pretty much everything else is the same, and Dorothy's extra articulation in her waist and chest are fun.  The eye thing was a major disappointment for me.  It's kind of silly, because it's not like I ever display Pippa with her eyes closed.  Still, when it comes to my doll photography, I like the option of taking pictures of her with her eyes closed without having to hold them in position.

Even that wasn't the main issue, though.  While I think Dorothy is cute, she's just not the same as Pippa.  I love every detail of Pippa's face paint.  She has such pretty, subtle makeup and fine details.  It's not like I hate Dorothy, but I'm not thrilled with her like I am with Pippa, either.  And since I don't plan on having an extensive Pullip collection, I only want Pullips or Taeyangs that I absolutely LOVE.  Forty dollars is a great price, but there has to be more to a decision to purchase a doll than a good bargain. :}  In the future, I hope to be a little slower in purchasing more expensive dolls, even if they're a great price.

So, long story short, that's why Dorothy is now on eBay.  I figured it would be better for someone else to have her who would really enjoy her.  Pippa's survived as the only Pullip in the house for this long...a little longer won't hurt anything. ;)

Speaking of Pippa, I found another fun thing for her at Tuesday Morning (I ended up going there a few days after purchasing Dorothy).

I've had my eye on "The Barbie Look" line for a long time, but I just couldn't see spending $20 on a Barbie outfit with a few accessories.  I really loved the Tea Party outfit, though, and thought it would be perfect for Pippa.  Tuesday Morning had several of the dresses there for $10 each, so I went ahead and picked up a Tea Party dress.

Box Details:

Certificate of authenticity

I really love the cute tea set it came with! :)

The headband is too small for Pippa, but it will work for some of my other dolls.

Pumps that are also too small for Pippa.  Maybe Belle or someone else can wear them. ;)

The dress out of the box.

It has snap closure in the back.

The belt at the waist is not attached, but stays in place when buckled.

The belt by itself.

Another look at the adorable tea set. :)

Other accessories.

And here's Pippa in her new dress.  Doesn't it suit her just perfectly? :)  On Barbie, the dress is meant to be above the knee, but I actually prefer this length.

The dress is a little low in the bodice, but I'm hoping someone can help me stitch it up a bit.  I'm so glad I got it, though.  It's just perfect for her. :)

Okay, I really need to get this post up and get to bed.  You guys have a great night, and I'll be back with more posts fitting the theme very soon. :)

I love the tea set and dress, too. :) And yes, Dorothy is really pretty. I hope she finds a good home. :)

I saw the Dorothy doll on your ebay listing and I was really excited! I'm a huge Wizard of Oz fan. I've seen Pullip dolls mentioned but never known much about them. This is the first time I'm really interested.

I think I remember seeing that tea party dress at Target or something and always admired it, especially the tiny tea set.

I'll have to check out Tuesday Morning the next time I can afford to shop. I know where there is one, but I've never gone into it.

Hi Shannon! Glad to spark your interest in Pullips. They're super cute dolls, but I've never been able to afford one until they started showing up at Tuesday Morning. ;)

And speaking of Tuesday Morning, I do hope you have a chance to go into your local one. It's one of those stores like Ross or even a thrift store where you never know what you're going to find. Sometimes, I'll go in there and find absolutely nothing I'm interested in, and other times I'll find some great bargains. :)

Thanks, Jasmine...glad you like her name. I do too! ;)

Aww, I love Pullips! Pippa looks amazing in the Barbie dress- I was actually thinking about getting it for my Livs and Rapunzel. And this is off-topic, but one of my Madeline Hatter's hands went missing and the hinge broke on the other one. :( I don't especially like the blue hands, so I was wondering if any of the other EAH girls have the same skin tone- could you try to see? Please? Thanks!
peace, love, llamas,

P.S. Some Kelly dresses work as EAH tops! :D

I'm so jealous of your Pippa! I've only ever seen one Pullip doll at TM, and it was the "Tiger Lily" doll of the Peter Pan group and I didn't care for her.

The hinged wrists and visible screws seem like such a huge step backwards on the Type 4 body! I guess the screws make fixing broken parts a little easier, though, huh?

She is so cute! I love the dress! I really would like to get a Pullip someday, so many posing possibilities! I love the Peter Pan Pullip- but I love the Dal Tinker Bell even more!

Hi misspiggy=awesome. I'll try to take a close look at my EAH dolls this week to see if one of them matches Maddy's skin tone. So sorry you lost her hand and that the other one broke! :(

Thanks for the tip on the Kelly dresses, too. :)

Hi Presto! I feel very blessed to have my Pippa. I just adore her sweet face. :)

Tiger Lily didn't come to my Tuesday Morning when the Peter Pan line was there, but I saw online pictures of her and have to share your opinion. I'm really not a fan of Dals in general. They look a little too grouchy or pouty for my taste. ;) I hope you're able to find one you like at a Tuesday Morning near you someday!

I suppose the screws would make fixing the body easier. If it makes you feel any better, though, Dorothy is the one with Body 3 and Pippa with Body 4 (sorry if that wasn't clear), so Pippa's is the most recent version. :)

Hi Chloe! I really enjoy the posing fun with Pullips too, as well as their sweet faces. I hope you're able to get one of your own someday! :)

I'm still jealous that you even have Pullip doll or that you even got her for 40 bucks! I don't have a Tuesday mornings around me so I can't exactly go out looking for Pullips haha. I prefer the body type 4 Pullip, Not owning one personally..but from reading enough about them I know what I prefer lol. It's great that you got that Barbie the look dress for so cheap, I too would love to have some of the outfits but for 20 dollars that's a lot! I'm hoping that they'll start showing up more cheaper with new ones coming out.

Oooooh, now I have to go check my local Tuesday Morning! Dorothy looks like she'd make a very good Ariel for my Princess lineup...or maybe I'll wait until after I see Frozen, because she has a very Anna sort of face as well!

The Type 3 body is what turned me toward body-swapping my Pullips with Obitsu bodies. Those hinge-jointed wrists crack so easily! Jun Planning used the same body on the J-Dolls, and my J-Doll's arm cracked almost up to the elbow. :(

Also, Pippa is a magnificent name! My lone non-Princess Pullip is named Penny - I also went for short, cute, and starts with P!

I'm sorry you don't have a local Tuesday Morning, Amber. I hope you find a Pullip for a good price someday. I definitely wouldn't have any if it wasn't for the reduced price. :}

I didn't know much about the body types before this, but now I have to say that I also prefer the Type 4 body. :)

I'm really pleased I found the tea dress for Pippa at a reduced price, too. I've LOVED the Barbie Look items, but I just couldn't see spending that much on one outfit. :}

Hey, Jen! Great to hear from you! :) I think Dorothy would make an excellent custom doll. I always love seeing what you come up with. :)

I'm sorry your Type 3 bodies had so many problems. :( I know a lot of people body swap their Pullips, but I'm just not brave enough to try it yet. :}

Speaking of which, if your Tuesday Morning does have the dolls, I'd be interested in what you think about the Cowardly Lion and how difficult you think it would be to customize him. Not that I'd necessarily be brave enough to, but I'd like to hear your thoughts. :)

Penny is a cute name, too! I guess great minds think alike. ;)

You know, today i out of the blue looking at my friend's doll and mesmerized by it.
i googled and found your amazing blog!
I envy you for founding doll with a really great discount and price, while in my country, indonesia, the price would be almost 100 USD :(
will still try to search for any good bargain and buy myself one!
your blog so inspired me!

Ande, so glad you found my blog and that it inspired you. :)

I'm sorry that Pullips are so hard to find there. I would never have been able to afford one if not for Tuesday Morning.

I hope you find one for yourself at an affordable price soon! :)

Oh, to be an American and able to find these cuties in stores at all!

Must be great!

Thank you for your lovely reviews!

You're welcome, Bianca. :) I'm sorry you can't find these deals for yourself. I would never be able to afford J-dolls or Pullips if not for stores like Tuesday Morning, so I understand how frustrating it must be to see this stuff and not have access to it. :(

Hope you have a great day!
